MyPublisher Review

March 23, 2007

I’d received a book from MyPublisher.com (flickr set), and was disappointed in the quality. I’d also noticed a few ink blemishes, so I contacted customer service.
They immediately provided a coupon for a new book + shipping, which was great. When I inquired about the differences in quality, they recommended using 180dpi 5MP images [...]

Aperture crashes when relocating masters

March 18, 2007

I’ve been trying to consolidate and clean up my many images (starting from 1988), and am moving referenced images to another folder, to clean up but also see if I’ve left any behind.
For scanned images, I had separate folders with the type of film used (for later tagging), but since that’s now all in Aperture, [...]

MyPublisher Book review, sort of

unsightly ink blemish
Originally uploaded by mikefranklin.

I recently made a photo book with MyPublisher and was giddy with anticipation when it arrived. I’d read that they print the photo books for Apple, so I expected equal quality. I’d also looked forward to using their various printing features [...]

Making a book with MyPublisher.com

March 10, 2007

In a never ending quest to find the best (photo) book publishing solution on a mac, I downloaded BookMaker from mypublisher. It’s a desktop app which was recently released; last week I had resigned myself to using their iPhoto plug in. Overall, the process was easier/better than Blurb/BookSmart app, but not as flexible [...]

Blurb book review

The desktop app (Booksmart) isn’t as good as Aperture, and the final result isn’t is well done as the book from Apple, in short.

My book from Blurb arrived pretty much on time, even though the website claimed it was still “printing.” It ships from [...]

Code Monkey

Andrew was kind enough to pass along a link to the Code Monkey song. It’s pretty amusing and partly describes my early days a developer.

blurb book – still waiting

March 8, 2007

I ordered a book from Apple/Aperture and another from Blurb/Booksmart the weekend before last; the one from Apple shipped the next business day, while the one from Blurb is still ‘printing.’ I emailed customer support, and received an automated response which included:
Our Support We [sic] have received your customer support request, and wanted to [...]

Apple photobook

two page spread
Originally uploaded by mikefranklin.

I’ve uploaded to flickr some photos of my just-received hot-of-the-presses/frozen-in-transit photobook produced by Apple via Apple Aperture.
Overall I’m impressed, though I’m not sure these photos do the book justice!

Apple photo book – first impression

March 6, 2007

I ordered a photo book from Apple, via Aperture. I uploaded it last weekend; it shipped the Monday immediately afterwards, and arrived in Vermont the following Monday (shipped “regular” via fedex ground).
Photos will follow, but here’s a preview: I like it! It’s pretty cool, and the quality of the printed photos is directly [...]
